Author Visit and Donation Honor Local Coach and Support Children’s Literacy

The Drummond Public Library was honored to welcome author Tom Pelissero of Bring One Home, for a recent visit that celebrated both literacy and community legacy. During his visit, Pelissero made a generous $500 donation to the library in honor of  basketball coach John Bonk and his late wife, Alice Bonk.

This meaningful gift reflects not only Pelissero’s commitment to literacy, but also his desire to recognize individuals who have made a lasting impact on the community. Coach Bonk’s dedication to mentoring young people through athletics, alongside Alice Bonk’s enduring influence, has touched many lives in the U.P. of Michigan, drummond and beyond.

In addition to this donation, Pelissero shared that all proceeds from the sale of his books are being donated to support literacy programs for children. His ongoing commitment ensures that young readers have access to books, resources, and opportunities that foster a lifelong love of reading.

The Drummond Public Library extends its heartfelt thanks to Tom Pelissero for his generosity and advocacy for children’s literacy, and to John Bonk for his years of leadership, mentorship, and positive influence within our community. Gifts such as these strengthen our mission and help ensure that literacy remains accessible to all.

We are grateful for this thoughtful recognition and of his and other very generous donors whose continued support of those who believe in the power of reading to shape young lives.
